About us
Our winery is set deep in Heathcote wine country, against the backdrop of Mount Camel and the rolling hills. Our 6000 vines, 70 fruit trees and famed Cambrian soil provide everything from apricots to peaches, shiraz to cabernet sauvignon, olive oil to pistachios; all handpicked, and hand pruned. Surviving two El Nino’s and many famed Australian summers, our vines remain unirrigated following the advice of Guy’s elders, “To make the best wine, the grapes must struggle.”
And it’s the elders that brought us to Heathcote. Many years ago, Guy’s great, great grandparents, Frederick and Harriet Mitchell, once worked the Heathcote land. With seven children in a small cottage in Playne Street, still intact today, the Mitchell’s enjoyed a comfortable life with their small plot of land, and dairy cow. Sometime later, Aunty Alice moved from her sheep farm in Toolleen to settle here too. And so, it was fate when the farm came up for sale. In just a few years, Guy has worked the land, becoming a farmer and winemaker his ancestors would be proud of, producing organic, sulphate-free, Italian style wine made for drinking. That Guy’s Place is ever evolving, from fruit and wine production to a beautiful campsite for travellers. We welcome you to Guy’s.
